AAAA is a domain address record, that's in essence the IPv6 address of the web server in which the domain name is hosted. The IPv6 system was introduced to replace the current IPv4 system where every IP consists of four sets of decimal numbers which range from 1 to 255 e.g. 5.168.208.143. In contrast, an IPv6 address features 8 sets of 4 hexadecimal digits - ranging from 0 to 9 and from A to F. The main reason for this change is the tremendously smaller amount of unique IPs that the current system supports as well as the speedy increase of devices that are connected to the Internet. A good example of an IPv6 address would be 2101:1f34:32e2:2415:1365:4f2b:2553:1345. If you want to point a domain to a server that uses such an address, you'll have to create an AAAA record for it, not the widely used A record, which is an IPv4 address. The two records provide the exact same function, yet different notations are used, to identify the two types of addresses.
AAAA Records in Hosting
If you need to create a new AAAA record for any domain name or subdomain hosted within your hosting account, it will not take you more than a couple of basic steps to do that. Our in-house built Hepsia CP is extremely intuitive to use and it'll allow you to set up or modify any record easily. Once you sign in and navigate to the DNS Records section, where you'll discover all present records for your domain addresses and subdomains, you'll just have to click on the "New" button, pick out AAAA from a small drop-down menu within the pop-up which will show up, enter or paste the necessary IPv6 address and save the modification - it is as basic as that. The new record shall be 100% functioning within a maximum of an hour and the hostname which you have created it for will start opening whatever content you have with the other provider. If needed, you are also going to be able to change the TTL (Time To Live) value, which indicates the time in seconds which the new record will be working after you eventually edit it to something different or you simply erase it.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
Setting up a new AAAA record for a domain name or a subdomain hosted within a semi-dedicated server from our company involves a few very easy steps, which you will be able to find inside the Help section of your Hepsia web hosting Control Panel as well. You will have to select the hostname for which the new record is going to be created from a drop-down menu in which you will find all your domain addresses and subdomains. Setting up the new AAAA record is as easy as selecting the one that you need and inputting the IPv6 address for it. This is accomplished with no more than a couple of clicks, so you can quickly point any hostname to a different service provider by using an AAAA record and use it with whatever service they provide. It's going to take mere seconds for the new record to be live and just around an hour for it to propagate world-wide, so you'll be done in no time. The other provider can also require you to set some TTL value for the AAAA record, that's different from the default one - 3600 seconds. This feature outlines how long it will take for any new value which you set for your record to take effect while the old value is still active.
