Launched in 2001, the Dot NAME gTLD is the single TLD planned for personal web pages only. These domain names can be personal or fictional names, nicknames and/or other labels people are famous by. Initially, only 3rd-level registrations were possible, so if you planned to order john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were loosened and 2nd-level registrations were also permitted. Already acquired 3rd-level names remained working.
